Spoon Carving

You know there once was a time when, if you needed a spoon to eat or cook with, you just carved one yourself! This workshop will teach you all of the basics of this nearly-forgotten and very unique skill, and we’ll have a lot of fun doing it. We’ll start with blanks of cherry, dogwood, or walnut and go through all the steps of design, layout, and technique. Taught by a couple of the best (and craziest) spoon carvers we know, this workshop is guaranteed to be a big hit.

March 31–April 1— $225

*Suggested Tool List

  • 3/4 inch #7 sweep bent gouge
  • spoke shave
  • scorp

*In the event that you have none or only some of the tools listed above (or haven’t even heard of some!) don’t worry, Appalachian Life Workshops will provide you with all of the tools necessary to complete your project. We will also have a selection of tools available for sale at the workshop if you are interested.
